Many a times a Windows user is in a dilemma ,whether svchost.exe is a virus or a system process.
For the people who don’t know about svchost.exe.
Open your task manager, go to the process tab. You can see multiple instances of a process named svchost.exe running.

What is svchost.exe?
According to Microsoft: “svchost.exe is a generic host process name for services that run from dynamic-link libraries”.
It means svchost.exe is a system program which hosts other services required by windows to run. i.e. services such as Automatic Updates, Windows Firewall, Plug and Play, and others can’t run without svchost.exe.
At start up, svchost.exe checks the services portion of the registry and constructs a list of services that it needs to load.
Why there are multiple instances of the same process?
svchost.exe process hosts services specific to a group. A single svchost.exe instance is created for each group. For example, one svchost.exe instance runs services related to the firewall. Other svchost.exe instance might run services related to the user interface. Grouping services into a group saves computer resources.
What if an instance of svchost.exe fails , then the complete windows will have to crash.
So to avoid windows from crshing with only one instance, there are multiple instances of svchost.exe created. Plus this helps in better debugging.

Firefox 4, after a huge makeover of the user interface and with loads of new features, is absolutely a major competitor for the Google’s chrome browser which had recently caught the limelight for quite sometime recently.
